Job Description

We are now looking for you who want to be part of us at Munkhätteskolan and who want to work in the important role of a student assistant in our adapted primary school. Your main placement is in our adapted primary school, but the position may also involve working in other parts of the school depending on needs.

In the adapted primary school, you work with children in groups throughout the day. You have a student-support function and assist teaching teachers in conducting lessons at school and in the leisure center. You provide pedagogical, social, and physical support to the students.

You support the students with ADL – Activities of Daily Living. This means you help the students with, among other things:

  • Eating and drinking – breakfast, lunch, and snacks
  • Dressing and undressing
  • Personal hygiene – showering, changing diapers or sanitary pads if necessary
  • Toilet visits and body care

The role also includes performing self-care tasks, such as medication administration for ADHD or epilepsy. The role of a student assistant involves varied tasks based on the needs of the students, the group, and the school.

In our adapted primary school, you work in close collaboration with the responsible special needs teacher/special educator/teacher and other student assistants, but you also cooperate with other professional groups and functions at the school. Your main tasks are to help students follow the lessons by motivating, supporting, and adapting the teaching, as well as helping the student(s) create a good balance between rest and work.

In addition, your tasks will include supporting students in developing various school social skills and being a support for the student(s) throughout the school day, during lesson time as well as leisure center time. This includes a supervisory responsibility that is particularly important since our students have intellectual disabilities and therefore have more or less limited consequential thinking.

You treat all students with a low-affective approach in all situations, even in cases of aggressive behavior.

Qualifications

You who apply have completed upper secondary education. If it is focused on care, we consider this an advantage. Alternatively, you have equivalent knowledge through at least two years of experience working with children and young people with disabilities/intellectual disabilities. Education regarding ID (Intellectual Disability) or NPD (Neurodevelopmental Disorders) is an advantage. Experience working with various physical and intellectual disabilities is also an advantage. You have knowledge of different diagnoses and disabilities and how to interact with them. You have experience working in an adapted primary school. Knowledge of alternative communication methods and low-affective interaction is also an advantage.

You have a stable physique as there are outdoor activities in all weather conditions, and you will need to be a physical support for students, for example, lifting is included. You need to be able to express yourself clearly in Swedish, both verbally and in writing, as the work involves contact with guardians and some documentation.

You see others' strengths and differences as an asset. You have a good ability to meet all students based on their needs and daily condition. You are proactive, flexible, and can easily adapt to what the school requires. Working with children for their best interests is an active choice. You are engaged, interested, and have the drive to develop yourself and be developed.

We would appreciate it if you have a good understanding of chapters 1 and 2 of the school curriculum and have the willingness and interest to familiarize yourself with other parts of the school's governing documents. We also expect you to have knowledge of how different disabilities affect the student's learning and how to best compensate for these.

We welcome your application!
